Stewardship & Paint Recycling at Gray’s Paint Stores in San Francisco Bay Area

The owners and employees at Gray’s Paint Stores recognize that sustainability stewardship needs to be a core aspect of our brand and is a key component of the long-term success of our business.

Sustainability is our responsibility: to the environment, our customers, and to our local communities. We work toward sustainability in a couple of ways.

First, we are committed to working with our suppliers and paint manufactures to provide a full complement of premium quality “low VOC” or “Zero VOC” product platforms for our customers who want to purchase low environmental impact products. Currently, over 80% of our core product offerings are “low VOC” and 35% of our core product lines are on a “Zero VOC” platform.

Secondly, reducing pollutant waste is a fundamental piece of our efforts. Employees are trained to carefully estimate how much paint a project will need. This helps minimize leftover paint that will eventually need disposal. Additionally, and uniquely, at two of our locations, Gray’s Paints offers over 3000 of our colors in 2oz sample jars; just enough paint to effectively apply two coats of paint onto a 24” X 24” sample.

Lastly, we help anyone reduce pollutant paint waste. Our Burlingame and Belmont locations, are registered PaintCare recycle drop off locations. We accept paint of any brands – not just what we sell. Want to bring unwanted paint for recycling? Following these steps:

  • Make sure the lids are secured tightly (no leaking containers);
  • Keep the material in the original containers with the original labels
  • Do not mix products together
  • Put the paint cans in a sturdy cardboard box
  • Bring them to our Burlingame or Belmont locations, during normal business hours

We can take up to (10) containers per visit. It’s strongly recommended to call ahead of time to make sure we have enough space for your items.

We don’t accept empty paint cans; you can put them in your regular trash or recycling bins, depending on your waste services.

Gray’s Paints is honored to live and work in Bay Area peninsula communities and we thank you for inviting us into your homes. We look forward to sustaining our relationships with you and with furthering our efforts to sustaining the special environments we share in the Bay Area.
